Why should you be involved?
While hunger affects people of all ages, it is particularly devastating for children. Even short-term episodes of hunger can cause lasting damage to child development, putting children at risk for a range of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and physical problems. Strengthening child nutrition programs provides an immediate and direct way to reduce child hunger and improve health and educational outcomes. We need volunteers to make this program work because thousands of meals are prepared fresh and packed at our kitchen(s) each day then transported and served at apartment complexes, parks and playgrounds, libraries, child care centers, low-income neighborhoods and many other sites. During the summer of 2019, Kids Kupboard distributed more than 50,000 meals to children – We can’t do it without you!
While Kids Kupboard always needs volunteers, they are more essential in the summer simply because the needs of children are so much greater. The summer leaves those children who receive free or reduced lunches in a vacuum. Volunteers are our backbone in providing meals to kids across the MatSu and beyond.
